Thank you Skibbereen

On Friday night 24th July Skibbereen went back in time to 100 years ago and beyond to commemorate the remarkable
Irish patriot Jeremiah O'Donovan Rossa. On 5th March 1863, Rossa was one of the organisers of a march that took place in Skibbereen in support of the Polish uprising against Russia. Hundreds of local people and groups of Polish people most of them came up from Cork amongs them were representatives of Together-Razem Centre, MyCork Association, Tea or Coffee senior groups, all took part in Parade. Many were carrying Polish banners all dressed in national colours. A representative of the Polish Embassy Mr Piotr Rakowski also attended night event in recognition of Ireland and Poland’s old connections.
It was remarkable night the whole Skibbereen community really involved in recreating Skibbereen’s past.
On behalf of Together-Razem we would like to say thank you to organisers from Skibbereen Arts Festival Mr Declan McCarthy Event Coordinator and to Gabriel Doherty from UCC who is involved in creating fantastic links between Polish and Irish community.
