The Sanctuary Runners and Together Razem to partner for the June 5th Cork City Marathon to run together in solidarity with migrants and refugees.
Read about our partnership here: https://www.irishexaminer.com/news/munster/arid-40865711.html
We are inviting all Ukrainian and people who wish to support Ukrainians to take part in the marathon. We are asking anyone who has moved to Cork from another country for whatever reason to run or jog with us on June 5th.
There is no fee for those recently arrived from the Ukraine.
All you have to do is to fill in the questionnaire and provide your details, by Friday, May 20th.
Most people can run the final leg of the relay – so 7.4 kilometres. This means that everyone running this leg will cross the finish line on Patrick’s Street in the City Centre.
If you prefer to run longer distance please let us know ( half marathon or full marathon) in the comment box of the questionnaire.
The Sanctuary Runners will provide the running tops and if possible running gear for people taking part. The sooner we know what will be needed the better our chance of sourcing it.
If you are not Ukrainian refugee and wish to run the relay or full or half marathon or register a full relay team you register and pay as normal on Cork City Marathon website – https://www.corkcitymarathon.ie

Together-Razem needs funds to run and develop newly opened Hub Together4Ukraine located at Blackpool Community Centre.
The Together4Ukraine hub is a culturally familiar, relaxed space for Ukrainians to come to. The Hub aim is to provide them access to vital services in their own language, ranging from mental health supports to support accessing employment opportunities. Integration and social inclusion is vitally important for refugees, and this is only possible if people are empowered to be independent and have a sense of agency over their own lives. Providing these services, and assisting the Ukrainian refugee community in navigating Irish systems will support them in integrating into society, until such time as they feel safe to return home.
Every single donation is important.
All Ukrainian refugees who will register with Together-Razem and all our supporters who are going to fundraise for our charity would wear a special band on the arm in Ukraine flag colours.
We all would be so delighted if you wanted to join some of the others in our group for gentle training runs – either:
On a Saturday morning or Thursday evening.
On Saturday mornings we take part in a 5km run in a beautiful park near Cork City called Ballincollig.
On Thursday evenings we have a training session at the Mardyke race track near University College Cork and would love for you to take part.
Again all free and often we have Irish Olympic athletes giving the training sessions. It’s all very relaxed and fun.
We organise a celebration on a street near the finish line after every marathon with:
– Free food
– Medal presentations by the Lord Mayor
